Busta Studio designs Kimpton Ashbel hotel on Park Avenue as an elegant townhouse
Anna and Jonathan Busta established Busta Studio, which has finalized the interior design of the Kimpton Ashbel hotel, situated in a beaux-arts structure from 1928 on Park Avenue in New York City. Inspired by the sophistication of the city’s historic townhouses, the design seeks to provide guests with a 'warm, elegantly curated home.' The studio incorporated hand-brushed blonde limed oak paneling, arches, Bianco Dolomiti and Pietra marbles, hand-cast bronze, glass, inlaid bronze, and hand-cut mosaic stone, complemented by white plaster ceilings and moldings. Custom street-level louvres ensure privacy from the bustling avenue. The lobby showcases a custom inlaid mosaic featuring the hotel's KA initials, while a carefully curated art collection includes commissioned graphics, paintings, photography, and sculpture, celebrating beauty in a subtle manner. A soothing color scheme of neutral and jewel tones unifies communal areas and guest rooms, with jewel-toned accents on various furnishings. Textiles such as velvets, linens, naturally tanned leathers, and boucle fabrics contribute to a cozy atmosphere. Anna Busta emphasized that the hotel is designed to resemble a private residence, enhancing the overall guest experience. Dezeen featured this project alongside other notable hotel designs, including a Glasgow hotel in a 19th-century townhouse and a boutique hotel in Tokyo.
