Bushwick Open Studios Expands with NEWD Fair and Artist Openings

Bushwick Open Studios, organized by Arts in Bushwick, expands this weekend with 677 shows across studios, storefronts, and homes in eastern Brooklyn. A new art fair, NEWD, launches in a 7,000-square-foot industrial space at 1896, 592 Johnson Avenue, featuring artist collectives, nonprofits, and galleries, and introduces negotiated resale royalty agreements for transparency. At 56 Bogart Street, galleries like Momenta Art, NURTUREart, Life on Mars, and THEODORE:Art showcase works, with THEODORE:Art presenting sculptor Joyce Robins's early paintings alongside clay reliefs. Upstairs, open studios include abstractionist Delfina Nahrgang. Alain Kirili inaugurates ArtHelix's new premises at 299 Meserole Street with steel wire and rubber tubing sculptures, described by David Cohen in artcritical. At Studio 303, 41 Varick Avenue, new media artists Man Bartlett and Carla Gannis participate in a five-person open studio. MIXTAPE, curated by Sophia Alexandrov and Todd Bienvenu at 195 Morgan Avenue, No. 4 Studio, features painters like Katherine Bradford, Margrit Lewczuk, Gili Levy, Sangram Majumdar, and Kyle Staver. Twenty-Three Artists From In and Around hosts an opening at 386 Jefferson Street's garage, sponsored by Hendrick's Gin, with artists including Paula DeLuccia, Lori Ellison, Lawrence Swan, and Richard Timperio.
