Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle's new building set for autumn 2027 start after delays

Construction on the new building for Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle is now scheduled to begin in autumn 2027, following significant delays and approval from Saxony-Anhalt's state parliament finance committee. The updated cost estimate, confirmed by the committee, puts the project volume at around 42 million euros, including initial equipment. Originally, completion was expected by 2027, but a realistic finish date is now not before 2030. Preparatory work, including relocations from a building on the construction site, must be completed by the end of the summer semester 2026, with demolition and archaeological investigations planned from November 2026. Rector Bettina Erzgräber expressed enthusiasm for the project's advancement, highlighting that the new facility will provide modern spaces for artistic work and sustainably strengthen the art college as a study location. Chancellor Stefan Danz emphasized the importance of this step for the institution's further development, noting close oversight to ensure sustainable, high-quality realization. Planned features include new studios, workshops, exhibition areas, and seminar rooms for teacher training studies. The decision was based on a cost advance notification adjusted after planning revisions last year.
