Buñuel's 'The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie' Returns in 4K for 50th Anniversary
Luis Buñuel's surrealist comedy 'The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie' is re-released in a 4K restoration for its 50th anniversary. The restoration was produced by STUDIOCANAL and the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (CNC), with work conducted by the laboratory L’Image Retrouvée. The historic Film Forum in New York City will screen the film for two weeks, from June 24 to July 7, 2022. The film, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, follows six characters attempting to dine together, repeatedly thwarted by absurd obstacles. Buñuel famously skipped the Oscar ceremony and sent a photo of himself in a wig and sunglasses instead, quipping that the vote was democratic but decided by 2,500 idiots.
