Bunny Rogers' Animated Video on Columbine at Julia Stoschek Foundation

Bunny Rogers' 13-minute animated video "Mandy’s Piano Solo in Columbine Cafeteria" (2016) is the centerpiece of her installation "Columbine Cafeteria," on view at the Julia Stoschek Foundation in Los Angeles's Variety Arts Theater from February 18, 2026. The video features an animated female character modeled after the "Sexy Dumpster Teen" from MTV's "Clone High," crouching at a grand piano inside a reconstructed Columbine High School cafeteria with falling snow. She drinks red wine while performing melancholic covers of Elliott Smith songs. The installation is presented in a dimly lit room with continuous artificial snowfall, including a real lavender piano bench with pairs of "Mandy socks," replica cafeteria furniture (some altered), memorial objects like candles and trash, and other sculptural elements referencing the 1999 Columbine school shooting. Created when Rogers reflected on childhood events, the work combines 3D animation, sculpture, and installation, drawing on youth media culture, pop music, and historical events to explore memory, loss, and adolescent experience.
