Bulgarian rope-access photographer captures Milan from skyscrapers
Dimitar Harizanov, a Bulgarian rope-access technician based in Italy for six years, has become known as Milan's 'Spiderman photographer' for his unique aerial shots taken while working on the city's tallest buildings. Since April 2020, he has been documenting the Bosco Verticale and other skyscrapers from heights between 100 and 231 meters, using his Sony camera during work breaks. His portfolio includes over 500 unprecedented photographs of landmarks such as Torre Allianz (designed by Arata Isozaki and Andrea Maffei), Bosco Verticale, Torri Unicredit, Solaria, Solea, Aria, Diamante, and Generali. Harizanov's images offer perspectives unattainable by drones or any other means, comparable to an architect's eye when drawing a project. Architect Stefano Boeri has used Harizanov's photos of Bosco Verticale for presentations and involved him in a 360° video documentary produced by London agency Surround Vision. The documentary accompanied a photo exhibition at the Consulate General of Italy in New York. Harizanov was part of the team that installed the fourth copy of the Madonnina atop Torre Allianz in November 2015, at 202 meters, following Milan's Ambrosian tradition. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he remained in quarantine for 42 days. His work captures changing seasons, weather, and climate change from a unique vantage point.
