Bulgarian Pavilion at 2026 Venice Biennale Becomes a Political Laboratory

exhibition · 2026-05-22

The Bulgarian Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale, curated by Martina Yordanova, presents "The Federation of Minor Practices," transforming the space into a speculative research lab. The all-female group of artists—Veneta Androva, Gery Georgieva, Maria Nalbantova, and Rayna Teneva—explores ecology, media systems, and collective responsibility through four films and an interactive video game. Androva's "Spray and Pray" examines disinformation networks via "mushroom websites." Georgieva's "UWU Channel Radiance" features a prophetic anchor blending media and mythology. Teneva's "Geography Is Destiny" juxtaposes rose harvesting and arms manufacturing in Bulgaria's Rose Valley. Nalbantova's "Swamp Song" links ecological fragility with elderly women's silent presence at the Dragoman marsh. The interactive game "KAZANA," developed with Sofia Tech Labs, engages visitors in collective decision-making. The pavilion is located at Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli, Dorsoduro 919, Venice, and runs until November 22, 2026.
