Building Gallery in Milan Dedicates Year-Long Exhibition to Chiara Dynys
Building gallery in Milan has launched "Private Atlas," a year-long solo and anthological exhibition dedicated to Chiara Dynys (born Mantua, 1958), one of Italy's most important contemporary artists. The project, curated by Alessandro Castiglioni, spans 35 years of Dynys's practice and is divided into three macro-chapters: "La disseminazione della memoria" (The Dissemination of Memory), "Attraversamenti" (Crossings), and "Viaggio in Italia" (Journey in Italy). Each month, a new site-specific installation will be presented in the Buildingbox space, featuring both historical and new works. This marks the first time a gallery has devoted an entire year to a single artist with twelve distinct displays. The first chapter explores space through works like "Senza Titolo" (1991-1992), originally created for the Musée d'Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne, consisting of white sculptures made from marble, plaster, and canvas. The second chapter focuses on the concept of the threshold, referencing Dynys's interest in virtual passageways and perspective, inspired by the Sibyl's cave at Cumae. The third chapter pays homage to Italian art history and cinema, particularly Rossellini's film "Viaggio in Italia" and Goethe's book of the same name. Dynys cites influences from Mannerism and Borromini's false perspective at Palazzo Spada. The gallery, founded in 2017 by Moshe Tabibnia, is located on Via Monte di Pietà in central Milan.
