Budapest's Museum of Sweets & Selfies: Europe's First Pop-Up Candy and Selfie Museum

The Museum of Sweets & Selfies opened in Budapest in December 2018 and has already attracted 30,000 visitors. Designed by the creators of PANiQ-ROOM, an interactive adventure space founded in 2012 in Budapest, the museum features pastel-colored rooms, especially pink, with surreal installations including pink palm trees, flamingos, giant strawberries, unicorns, floating tea sets (a nod to Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter), donut-shaped cushions, tropical fruit falling from ceilings, candy pools, and fluorescent lollipops. Visitors can take selfies and also enjoy coffee and sweets for takeaway. The museum claims to be the first of its kind in Europe, as similar pop-up museums—such as the Museum of Selfie, Ice Cream Museum, Museum of Candy, MoPi (Museum of Pizza), and Color Factory—have mostly opened in the United States. Other themed museums mentioned include Spyscape (designed by Adjaye Associates with input from former hackers and intelligence directors), the National Comedy Center, and Human's Best Friend (dedicated to dogs).
