Bucharest's EVA Foundation Opens with All-Female Collection

institutional · 2026-04-26

In Bucharest, Romania, the EVA Foundation has launched as a new venue dedicated to female artists, established by Ecaterina Aguiar-Lucander. This space showcases a diverse collection featuring over 20 celebrated female artists, including Judy Chicago and Yayoi Kusama. The opening exhibition, titled "Sirens," is presented in a refurbished townhouse from the 1930s, designed by Bogdan Ciocodeica, located at Strada I.C. Visarion 17. Admission is free and accessible to the public. Aguiar-Lucander, a graduate of Yale, seeks to encourage conversations between historical and modern female artists. This foundation marks Romania's first initiative focused on women's art, aligning with a few global counterparts, such as the National Museum of Women in the Arts, established in 1981.
