Buca di San Vincenzo Jazz Club in Milan Closes, Founder Relaunches in Countryside
The Buca di San Vincenzo Jazz Club in Milan has permanently closed. The venue was a collaboration between gallerist Pasquale Leccese of Le Case d’Arte and Fabrizio Farinello, the previous owner. Opened over twenty years ago, it hosted jazz and contemporary art, particularly video art, for three years. Inaugural work was Büsi by Swiss duo Fischli & Weiss. Other artists included Nally Bellati, Pino Pipoli, Traslochi Emotivi, Parker Van Noord, and Lee Ranaldo. Leccese cited bureaucracy, COVID-19 closures, and rising costs as reasons for closure. Farinello is moving to a farmhouse in Solonghello, Monferrato, to recreate a music venue. Leccese is relocating his concept to a 300 sqm former 1930s workshop in the Ticino Park near Cuggiono, 35 km from Milan, opening late June 2021. The new space, designed by German architects Vincent Meyer and Sebastian Bernardy of Eventually Made with Giuseppe Terzulli, will feature a patio for concerts and readings and display Leccese's collection. A petition on Change.org has been launched to support struggling Milanese venues.
