Brussels Art Scene Blooms with Private Centers and Fairs

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

During Art Brussels' 30th anniversary, the Belgian capital saw a proliferation of private art centers and ephemeral events. The off-fair Slick made its first foreign incursion, and private collections by Eric Fabre, Alain Servais, and Frédéric de Goldschmidt opened to the public. Collector Nathalie Guyot and Agnès Violau organized an eight-hour performance program titled 'Bodies that Matter' at Beursschouwburg. Denise Vilgrain and Natacha Vullierme temporarily relocated Le Temple to screen Pierre Huyghe's film 'The Host and the Cloud' as part of Art Brussels' new 'Video in the City' initiative. The Vanhaerents collection presented AES+F's video installation 'The Feast of Trimalchio' in its Project Room for a year. The Maison Particulière, initiated by Amaury and Myriam de Solages, held its fourth thematic exhibition 'Struggle(s)' curated by invited artist Josep Niebla, featuring works from anonymous collectors. The CAB, a new private art center in a former 800 sqm warehouse with an industrial skylight, opened with '7SP Seven Artists from Sao Paulo' curated by Rejane Cintrao, focusing on the Brazilian scene. Originally intended to house Hubert Bonnet's collection, CAB will host residencies and two exhibitions per year. Galerie Valérie Bach relocated to a larger space, inaugurating with artist Pascal Bernier's selection of 13 painters, aiming to revitalize its program with Belgian and associated artists.
