Brussels and Zurich Art Weekends to Proceed in September 2020 Despite Pandemic

Despite the ongoing Coronavirus emergency, the art world is cautiously resuming events. Art Basel canceled its 2020 edition, but Manifesta opened its first tranche in Marseille, and Art Paris confirmed its September fair. Following Art Paris's lead, the Brussels Gallery Weekend and Zurich Art Weekend will take place from September 3–6 and September 11–13, respectively, both adhering to anti-contagion measures. The 13th edition of Brussels Gallery Weekend features 38 galleries and a new website for booking time slots. Director Sybille du Roy de Blicquy stated that collaboration with public and private partners made the event sustainable. A highlight is Generation Brussels, a city-wide exhibition of 12 emerging Belgian artists. The third edition of Zurich Art Weekend includes 100 events across over 60 venues, including exhibitions, performances, conferences, and guided tours. Participants include ETH Zurich, ZHdK, the University Hospital Zurich, and city tourism organizations. Since 2019, Zurich Art Weekend has been twinned with Beijing Gallery Weekend under the patronage of diplomat and collector Uli Sigg.
