Bruno Munari's Tantibambini series exhibited for the first time in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

From March 20 to April 13, 2025, the Eldodo bookshop in Milan hosts the exhibition 'Munari TTB – Bruno Munari e il progetto della collana Tantibambini', curated by Michela Dezzani and Bice Dantona. For the first time, all 66 titles of the Tantibambini series, conceived and directed by Munari for Einaudi between 1972 and 1978, are displayed in their original editions, accompanied by drawings, projects, and documentary material from the Archivio Storico Einaudi. The series revolutionized children's publishing in Italy with its square format, lack of hardcover or spine, low price (opposed by booksellers), and themes and visual languages that broke away from stereotypes. Munari aimed to create a synergy between text and images, collaborating with authors like Gianni Rodari and graphic designers like Pino Tovaglia, as well as young newcomers. The books were designed to be manipulated, cut, and 'messed up' by children, with stories starting on the cover. Initially boycotted by booksellers due to their bulk and low price, the series later gained recognition.
