Bruno Munari's Italian Gesture Dictionary Turns 60
Bruno Munari's 1963 book 'Supplemento al dizionario italiano' is celebrated in a new exhibition at Libreria Corraini 121+ in Milan, marking 60 years since its publication. The book catalogs 50 Italian hand gestures, inspired by an 1820s study by Canon Andrea de Jorio. Munari expanded de Jorio's original 19 illustrations with additional gestures, including foreign ones like the American 'OK' sign. The first edition was printed in Turin in 1958, followed by the second edition in 1963 with 20 more gestures. The exhibition features rare editions and photographs, running in 2023.
