Bruno Munari's First Major Madrid Retrospective at Fundación Juan March
In Madrid, the Fundación Juan March is presenting Spain's first significant retrospective of Italian artist and designer Bruno Munari (1907-1998), which will be open until May 22, 2022. Curated by Marco Meneguzzo, the exhibition showcases over 300 pieces sourced from various Italian museums, archives, foundations, and private collections, including works from the Archivo Lafuente in Santander. It covers Munari's complete career, featuring early paintings from the late 1920s, Futurist creations like Macchine Inutili and Macchina aerea, design items such as the Sofá Barchetta (1935) and Abitacolo (1971), as well as toys like Gatto Meo (1949) and Scimmietta Zizí (1953) for Pirelli. Notable works like Sculture da viaggio, Libri illeggibili, and five Macchine Aritmiche from the 1950s are also included. A dedicated area for children and adults to explore the Munari Method is part of the exhibition. The catalog, edited by Meneguzzo and featuring contributions from various authors, is designed in Munari's distinctive style with ring-bound pages.
