exhibition · 2026-04-26

The MIC – Museo Interattivo del Cinema di Cineteca Milano is hosting 'La Pop Art animata di Bruno Bozzetto', a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the Italian cartoonist and animator Bruno Bozzetto (born 1938 in Milan). Curated by Matteo Pavesi, Anita Bozzetto, and Irene Bozzetto, the show runs until November 30. It assembles over 50 short films, several feature-length works, posters, and extremely rare acetate cels (rodovetri). Among the 70 cels on display, some can be viewed via augmented reality. The exhibition also includes mini cinemas screening all 60 of Bozzetto's short films, rare photographs, feature film excerpts, and a farm installation in the MIC atrium featuring animals designed by the artist. A dedicated space highlights Doggy, his latest character inspired by his dog. Display cases showcase merchandise—from plush toys to pillowcases and aprons—inspired by his work, notably the iconic Mr. Rossi, a symbol of the average Italian citizen during the 1960s economic boom. Pavesi describes Bozzetto as a pop artist who has been dismantling societal clichés since the 1960s with dry irony, anticipating postmodernism with works like 'West and Soda' (1965). The exhibition underscores Bozzetto's environmental advocacy, portraying him as an artist who celebrates life in harmony with all living beings.
