Bruno Bischofberger, Swiss gallerist to Warhol and Basquiat, dies at 86

Bruno Bischofberger, a prominent Swiss gallerist known for his association with Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, has passed away. He established his namesake gallery in 1963 and met Warhol in New York in 1966, obtaining the first right of refusal on all new creations. Bischofberger invested in Warhol's Interview magazine and was involved in the production of the 1973 film L'amour. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he showcased solo exhibitions for artists such as Julian Schnabel, David Salle, and Miquel Barceló, among others. In 1982, he began representing Basquiat on an international scale. The gallery relocated to Männedorf in 2013, where his daughter Nina Bischofberger and her husband Florian Baier renovated the premises. He also had a passion for collecting folk art and prehistoric stone pieces.
