Bruna Esposito's Symbolic Works on View at MAXXI's The Place to Be

exhibition · 2026-05-05

MAXXI in Rome has unveiled a new permanent collection installation titled 'The Place to Be,' which will spotlight various artists over time, beginning with Bruna Esposito. The exhibition showcases four pieces: 'e così sia…' (2000), 'Oltremare' (2006), 'Senza titolo. Dvd per la proiezione di un’ombra' (2005), and images from the 'Occhi' series (2016). 'e così sia…' was specifically created for the PREMIO MAXXI exhibition, featuring legumes and cereals arranged in a circular design, which Esposito will reconstruct live. Both 'Oltremare' and 'Senza titolo' illustrate a monochrome flag in the Venezuelan sea, while the 'Occhi' series presents close-up portraits of fish eyes. Esposito, a 1960 Rome native, has had extensive exhibitions and won the Golden Lion in 1999.
