Bruna Esposito on Art, Ecology, and Air Conditioning in Buenos Aires

Bruna Esposito's solo exhibition "¿Qué puede el humo hacerle al hierro?" at Muntref-Centro de Arte y Naturaleza in Buenos Aires, organized with MAXXI and the Italian Embassy, was scheduled to open on March 13, 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show remains installed, awaiting visitors. The title, translating to "What can smoke do to iron?," proved prophetic regarding the pandemic's impact. Esposito discusses her ecological concerns, particularly in works like "Venti di rivolta o rivolta dei venti" (2009), featuring three ceiling fans with dung balls. She advocates for sustainable cooling alternatives, criticizing air conditioning for its environmental harm. Her interest in ecology dates back to 1987-88 when she designed "Zwei Öffentlisches Biotoiletten" in West Berlin, and earlier to her time in New York in the early 1980s.
