Bruges to Open BRUSK Contemporary Art Center in May 2026

exhibition · 2026-04-26

BRUSK, a new contemporary art center, will open in Bruges in early May 2026, forming part of the Bruges Museum Quarter. Designed by Robbrecht and Daem Architects and Olivier Salens Architects, the two-level building prioritizes sustainability and features open ground-floor spaces with a bookshop, café, and auditorium, while the upper floor houses two 13.5-meter-high exhibition halls inspired by cathedral grandeur. BRUSK will also serve as a storage and restoration facility for the Musea Brugge collection. The inaugural exhibitions include 'Latent City' (May 8–November 8, 2026), a solo show by Turkish-American digital artist Refik Anadol featuring an AI-generated work based on Bruges data, and 'Bigger Picture' (until September 6, 2026), a five-chapter medieval reinterpretation curated by historian Peter Frankopan with loans from international museums. The Bruges Museum Quarter, expected to be complete by 2030, will connect BRUSK with the renovated Groeningemuseum (closing 2027 for renovation) and the Bron research center (opened November 2025). Tickets for both exhibitions are available online.
