Brucia Festival Launches in Savona, Bridging Tradition and Contemporary Art

The new contemporary culture festival Brucia launched its zero edition in Savona, Italy, running from May 9 to 17, 2026. Organized by the under-30 association Fiammiferi, founded by Teresa Raineri, the festival aims to connect contemporary arts with local territory and community. Events include performances, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, and talks held at Fortezza del Priamàr and Teatro Chiabrera. A highlight is the solo show [Çigae] by Gaia De Megni (born 1993 in Santa Margherita Ligure), curated by Gabriele Cordì, on view until May 23 at Fortezza del Priamàr. The exhibition title references the Ligurian word for cicadas and the poetry collection by Edoardo Firpo (1968). De Megni's work explores return and belonging, focusing on the Ligurian Riviera in winter. The show includes the film La tigre e i gabbiani (2019) and ceramic pieces inspired by the heron, created in collaboration with Studio Ernan Design in Albisola Superiore, a historic ceramics workshop. The festival seeks to engage diverse audiences and support young cultural workers, addressing the challenge of retaining youth in provincial Italian cities.
