Bruce Munro Transforms Hills Hoist into Glowing Light Orchestra in Mildura

exhibition · 2026-05-07

Bruce Munro's newest large-scale artwork, Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra (FOSO), is set to debut on April 24, 2026, at the Lock 10 & 11 Precinct in Wentworth, Mildura, Australia. This British-Australian artist has crafted 144 sculptural elements inspired by the classic Australian Hills Hoist clothesline, intricately combined with thousands of kilometers of fiber optics to deliver a captivating multi-sensory experience. As dusk falls, the structures rise from the red earth, pulsating in harmony with an original musical score, transforming the landscape into a vibrant auditorium. Each fiber-optic strand serves as a responsive nerve ending, while energy-efficient projectors emit a gentle glow that respects the region's dark skies. The installation aims to attract international tourists to the Murray River, enhancing cultural tourism. Evening sessions commence at 6:30 PM.
