Bruce Conner retrospective at Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin

From May 4-5, 2018, the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin will present 'Bruce Conner: The Art of Montage,' highlighting the experimental films of American artist Bruce Conner (1933-2008). A prominent figure in structuralist cinema and underground culture, Conner relocated to San Francisco in the 1950s, where he co-founded the Rat Bastard Protective Association and Batman Gallery. His diverse body of work encompasses collage, drawing, sculpture, and film, frequently utilizing archival footage. Curated by Reading Bloom in collaboration with the Conner Family Trust, the program features screenings introduced by restorer Ross Lipman, including 'The Exploding Digital Inevitable.' Conner's films address themes of American prosperity, nuclear disaster, and racism, with significant pieces like 'Crossroads' (1976) and 'Report' (1963-67).
