Brooklyn's Evolving Identity Captured Through the B38 Bus Route Photo Project

A photographic project titled 'B38' documents the transformation of Brooklyn's neighborhoods, focusing on the intersection of fashion, art, and music. The project, produced for Artribune, takes its name from the B38 bus route and aims to reveal the 'matryoshka' of new Brooklyn districts. The article explores five areas: Bed-Stuy, Bushwick, Ridgewood, Greenpoint, and Astoria (Queens). Bed-Stuy, home to rappers Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., and Lil Kim, is known for its strong Black culture and historic architecture by Montrose Morris. Bushwick has become a hub for street art, with galleries like SOHO 20 Gallery, BogArt, and Slag Gallery, as well as the Bushwick Collective. Ridgewood, once the 'knitwear capital of the country' with over 500 factories, now features the Topos Bookstore Café and a vibrant Latinx community. Greenpoint, nicknamed 'Little Poland,' now hosts the Eagle + West complex by OMA (founded by Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis) and is a center for vintage fashion and skate culture. Astoria, in Queens, has the largest Greek community outside the Mediterranean and features the Noguchi Museum, designed by Isamu Noguchi. The project captures how these neighborhoods have evolved from industrial and crime-ridden areas into creative and cultural hotspots.
