Brooklyn Museum Live Installation: Visitors Pleat with Iris van Herpen

The Brooklyn Museum has opened a live installation titled 'Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses,' featuring a recreated atelier where visitors can participate in pleating textiles alongside the Dutch fashion designer. Van Herpen, known for her avant-garde couture, will periodically return to the studio throughout the exhibition to transform the visitors' pleated textiles into a garment, embroidering fragments of their conversations into the piece. The installation aims to share the craftsmanship behind her work in an intimate setting, as van Herpen describes her atelier as her 'most sacred space.' The project is described as a first of its kind, allowing the garment to evolve over the course of the show's run. Van Herpen emphasizes the significance of hands as a language, noting that each pair that joins her in creating the dress will influence its DNA. The exhibition is presented at the Brooklyn Museum, and the designer is based in the Netherlands.
