Brooklyn Museum Artist’s Ball Honors Iris van Herpen Ahead of Retrospective
On May 8, the Brooklyn Museum celebrated its annual Artist’s Ball, honoring Dutch designer Iris van Herpen in anticipation of her New York retrospective, 'Sculpting the Senses,' which opens on May 16. The event drew a crowd of artists, curators, designers, and celebrities, featuring specialty cocktails and a sculpture by KAWS. Guests, including Coco Rocha, donned creations by van Herpen. The night offered a preview of the exhibition, complete with microscopes to explore natural materials. Senior curator Matthew Yokobosky commended van Herpen's fusion of technology and craftsmanship. Following a performance by principals from NYC Ballet, board chair Barbara Vogelstein spoke about the impact of art. A Sotheby’s auction generated funds for the museum's programs, including initiatives for incarcerated individuals and climate-focused artists, as highlighted by host Fabiola Beracasa Beckman.
