Bronze Figurines and Human Remains Found in Etruscan Ritual Well at Marzabotto
An important archaeological find in Kainua, the ancient Etruscan settlement close to Marzabotto, Italy, uncovered bronze figurines, a plate, and votive items linked to a founding ceremony from the late 6th to early 5th centuries BC. Additionally, two human skeletons were discovered, suggesting the last use of the well, which functioned as both a water supply and a site of ritual importance. Earlier discoveries included two grand temples dedicated to Tinia and Uni, along with evidence of the Vei cult. The excavation was carried out by the University of Bologna and the National Etruscan Museum of Marzabotto (MNEMA), with a €140,000 grant from the Ministry of Culture. Artifacts will be showcased at the recently reopened MNEMA.
