Britzenale 6 Turns to Allotment Gardens' Future for 125th Anniversary

Scheduled for June 5-7, 2026, the 6th Britzenale will celebrate the 125th anniversary of Bezirksverband Berlin-Süden der Kleingärtner*innen e.V. at KGA Zur Windmühle. Curated by Christof Zwiener, alongside assistant curator Gianna Ehrke, the exhibition showcases over 20 artists who engage with the site's environmental, historical, and community aspects. A significant feature is the renewed emphasis on Eckhart Haisch's monumental sculpture 'Ramificazioni' from 1985, measuring roughly 15 meters in width, 8 meters in depth, and 4 meters in height, previously referred to as 'elephant feet.' The curators seek to highlight the future of Berlin's allotment gardens in light of climate change, urban densification, and social fragmentation. The Britzenale presents the allotment garden as a microcosm of urban life, emphasizing upcycling, recycling, and waste reduction. Plans include a public artist talk with the 85-year-old Haisch and a permanent information plaque. Additionally, Melanie Roumiguière has developed a mediation program featuring artist talks and educational initiatives. The exhibition invites visitors to stroll, discover, and engage with artistic works displayed in individual garden plots humorously termed 'Giardini.'
