Britta Rex's 'She Who Shapes The Land' Harnesses Volcanic Energy

Britta Rex's new album, 'She Who Shapes The Land', channels the raw energy of Madame Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of lightning, fire, wind, and volcanoes. The project, recorded in a single weekend, features an ensemble of musicians who had never played together before, including guitarist Barbara Jungfer, bassist Clara Däubler, vocalists Lindsay Lewis, Sandra Gantert, Mélanie Germain, and drummer Eddie Filipp. The album explores themes of fire and earth, following her previous work 'On Air On Water' which dealt with water and air. Rex described the project as being about anger and the need to destroy to create something new, stepping out of comfort zones. The recording session, pressured by time constraints and Deutsche Bahn delays, resulted in an organic, improvisational sound that Rex embraced over perfection.
