British Artists and Cultural Figures Receive 2019 New Year's Honours

The 2019 New Year's Honours recognized numerous British cultural figures and artists for their significant contributions. Sonia Boyce and Alison Wilding received the title of Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Meanwhile, Gillian Wearing, Yinka Shonibare, and Tacita Dean were appointed Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Notably, Gillian Wearing unveiled a statue of suffragist Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square, London, in April 2018. Andrew Nairne, director of Kettle's Yard in Cambridge, which recently reopened with a new education wing, also received an OBE.
