Brion Nuda Rosch's solo debut at DCKT Contemporary blends turquoise hues and found objects in a multimedia installation

exhibition · 2026-04-22

San Francisco-based artist Brion Nuda Rosch presented his first solo exhibition at DCKT Contemporary in New York City from June 25 to August 28, 2010. The show featured a multimedia installation with sculptures and collages grouped by medium, yet interconnected conceptually. A signature turquoise color, Pantone 15-5519, covered walls and sculptures, creating a tropical effect balanced by white expanses and a limited palette of brown, black, and white. Sculptures like Balanced Significance (2010), Unknown Accomplishment Unknown Hero (2010), and An Object’s Significance Removed (2010) were displayed on pedestals and tables, made from found statuettes coated in plaster and matte brown paint, evoking early works of Rachel Harrison but diverging in scale. Collages began with images from 1970s sources, overlaid with brown painted paper cutouts, creating abstract juxtapositions with landscapes and scientific illustrations. In pieces such as Sunset Eyes (2010), Rosch cut shapes directly from pages, leaving images like seascapes and geysers unframed on nails. The installation sprawled across the gallery, encouraging viewers to walk in circles and make new connections. Repetitive colors, humble materials, and geometric forms lent a narrative quality, with nature abstracted through additive processes. The exhibition balanced contradictions: contemporary yet nostalgic, minimal yet decorative, austere yet warm, demanding contemplation without offering clear answers.
