Born in Stuttgart in 1929, she moved to Tokyo at 26, where she worked, met a British partner, and had three children. Returning to Germany in 1973, she raised her children as a single parent. Her son's artistic career began relatively late when she gave him drawing materials for his 22nd birthday, a pivotal moment that shaped his path. Since the 1990s, Brigitte Meese managed her son's rise in the art world while becoming part of his work through performances, theater projects, and as a recurring motif. Observers described the duo as deliberately contrasting: the expressive artist alongside his pragmatic, unsentimental companion who called herself "unsentimental."
