Bright Star: 16 British Painters Shine at Mattia De Luca Gallery in Rome

The Mattia De Luca gallery in Rome presents 'Bright Star', a group show curated by Studio Geuna as part of DL Projects, running until April 12. The exhibition features 16 emerging British painters, including Kuzdzanai-Violet Hwami, George Rouy, Flora Yukhnovich, Sang Woo Kim, Alvaro Barrington, Sholto Blisset, Louise Giovanelli, Poppy Jones, Aaron Ford, and Lydia Blakeley. Curator Elena Geuna explains that painting was chosen for its ability to condense emotions and concepts into powerful images, enabling a direct dialogue with art history—especially resonant in Rome. The show is organized across three rooms: the first explores identity through works like Hwami's 'Untitled (2024)' and Rouy's 'Ethereal Bleeding (2023)'; the second focuses on mythological themes with surreal overtones, featuring Blisset's 'Eclipse (2024)' which echoes Claude Lorrain; the third room highlights landscape painting, including Ford's hyperrealist views and Blakeley's 'Co-creation (2024)' depicting a greenhouse. Many of the artists previously participated in 'Mixing It Up' at the Hayward Gallery in 2021. The exhibition aims to spotlight a dynamic new generation of British painting.
