Brian Eno Brings Generative Sound Installations to Trentino Castles

English composer and visual artist Brian Eno (born 1948 in Woodbridge) launches two site-specific installations in Trentino, Italy, from August 19 to November 6, 2022. Titled "Brian Eno x Trentino," the project is organized by Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara in collaboration with Castello del Buonconsiglio and Trentino Marketing, produced by Alessandro Albertini and Giuseppe Putignani. At Castello del Buonconsiglio, Eno presents "Audio Installation for Buonconsiglio," a generative music piece creating a synesthetic listening experience. At Castel Beseno, his well-known multimedia work "77 Million Painting" is adapted for the fortress walls: a software randomly combines layers from 400 of Eno's paintings to generate 77 million non-repeating combinations, projecting light images across 1,500 square meters of the East Walls. Eno, with a 50-year career spanning Roxy Music founding, production for Talking Heads, U2, Coldplay, and collaborations with David Bowie, Laurie Anderson, and others, describes his artistic approach as that of a "gardener planting seeds," embracing randomness and cybernetics. He launched EarthPercent in April 2021, a nonprofit channeling music industry funds to combat climate change by selecting effective environmental organizations. Eno emphasizes the radical act of slowing down and paying attention in an age of digital distractions, hoping visitors abandon themselves to the experience.
