Brian Eno and Jiří Příhoda's 'Nave' Installation Offers Overnight Stays

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The installation 'Nave', a collaboration between designer Jiří Příhoda and musician Brian Eno, was on view at Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague from July 20 to September 24, 2023. The work is a large white parallelepiped that occupies nearly the entire gallery space, opening upward to create a floating effect. Inside, a strong light emanates along with music composed by Eno, who described the piece as aiming to enhance the silence and stillness of the space. The title 'Nave' evokes a vessel for meditation, and the gallery enhanced this introspective quality by allowing visitors to book overnight stays on select dates, bringing sleeping bags and pillows. Participants became part of the installation, with some sleeping deeply and others meditating, all seemingly hypnotized by the sounds. Příhoda and Eno had previously collaborated.
