Brescia's New Risorgimento Museum Opens After €5M Renovation

The Museo del Risorgimento 'Leonessa d'Italia' in Brescia reopens on January 29, 2023, after a €5 million restoration. Housed in the castle's Grande and Piccolo Miglio, the museum features eight sections covering key events from the Revolution to the Fascist era and the Republican Constitution. It includes interactive displays, theatrical elements in collaboration with Teatro Piccolo di Milano, and a large immersive room dedicated to the Ten Days of Brescia. The museum is free for Brescia residents throughout 2023. The project is part of Brescia's role as Italian Capital of Culture 2023, shared with Bergamo. Officials including Mayor Emilio Del Bono, Vice Mayor Laura Castelletti, and Fondazione Brescia Musei President Francesca Bazoli emphasized the museum's aim to connect Risorgimento ideals to contemporary values. The renovation also includes broader castle regeneration with lighting and urban furniture.
