Brescia's Musil Museum of Labor and Industry Unveiled After 14-Year Gestation

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

After more than fourteen years of planning, the Musil (Museo del Lavoro e dell'Industria) project has been presented in Brescia, Italy. The museum will occupy the former Metallurgica Tempini industrial site, preserving its structural skeleton. Architect Klaus Schuwerk, who won the design competition in 2003, confirmed that construction will begin after summer following extensive site remediation. Despite funding cuts from €27 million to €12 million, the project includes broad urban redevelopment of the ex-industrial area. Massimo Negri, director of the museological area of the Fondazione Musil, explained that the museum will feature a 'Galleria del '900,' a 100-meter timeline showcasing industrial products, documents, and photographic materials largely from the Micheletti archive. Another highlight is the 'Vetrina dell'Innovazione,' a space for local businesses to display technological innovations, robotics, and Industry 4.0 developments. Construction is expected to take two years.
