Brescia Plans New Natural Sciences Museum to Replace Outdated Facility
Brescia has unveiled a feasibility study for a new Natural Sciences Museum, replacing the current outdated structure. The project, presented by the municipality, aims to create a cutting-edge scientific hub integrated with green spaces, emphasizing sustainability and low environmental impact. The new museum will connect Marconi Park and Lussignoli Park, where a botanical garden will also be established. Costs are estimated between €32 million and €44 million. The design includes two buildings linked by a transparent lobby, with walls inspired by Brescia's mountain cliffs, featuring taxidermy and vegetation as part of the exhibition. Key features include photovoltaic glass ceilings, permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, a library, auditorium, archives, bookshop, and a café opening onto the park. The project involves the current museum staff, the municipal building sector, designers Tectoo, and consultants Codice Edizioni, coordinated through Fondazione Brescia Musei. The new facility will meet NZEB and CAM standards, be barrier-free, and serve as a multifunctional, flexible, and eco-conscious cultural venue.
