Brescia Photo Festival Launches March 2017 with Steve McCurry and Magnum Photo
Scheduled from March 7 to 12, 2017, the inaugural Brescia Photo Festival will be hosted at two primary locations: Museo di Santa Giulia and MO.CA. (Centro per le nuove culture). Organized by Fondazione Brescia Musei and Ma.co.f. – Centro della fotografia italiana, the festival's central theme is 'People,' emphasizing human representation. Key exhibitions will continue through the summer. Highlights include the world premiere of Steve McCurry's 'Leggere,' focusing on reading, and the celebration of Magnum Photo's 70th anniversary in collaboration with Camera – Centro Italiano della Fotografia di Torino and Museo del Violino di Cremona. Additionally, a new International Photography Prize for under-35s, honoring Mario Dondero, will recognize unpublished social reportage, judged by notable figures such as Gianni Berengo Gardin and Uliano Lucas. The festival will also offer workshops, discussions, film screenings at Cinema Eden, and a fringe program in private galleries. Massimo Minini, president of Fondazione Brescia Musei, called it an inclusive initiative involving all city sectors, while Luigi Maria Di Corato, Director of Brescia Musei, highlighted the city's rich photographic tradition, including a historical international biennial.
