Brescia Hosts Major Lorenzo Mattotti Exhibition at Museo di Santa Giulia

The Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia presents 'Lorenzo Mattotti. Storie, ritmi, movimenti,' a comprehensive exhibition of over 250 works by the internationally acclaimed Italian illustrator. Curated by Melania Gazzotti, the show is part of Bergamo Brescia Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2023 and explores Mattotti's career from the 1980s to the present through three thematic sections: music, cinema, and dance. Highlights include illustrations for Lou Reed's 'The Raven' (2011), charcoal drawings for the Paris Opera's production of Humperdinck's 'Hänsel und Gretel' (2009), posters for films by Antonioni, Soderbergh, and Wong Kar-wai, and works from his acclaimed animated feature 'La famosa invasione degli orsi in Sicilia' (2019). The dance section features a new large triptych over four meters long, created for the exhibition and inspired by collective dance. Mattotti describes the triptych as his most complex work, blending abstraction with figuration. The show is accompanied by a catalog published by Skira, edited by Gazzotti, with contributions from Marco Belpoliti, Charlotte Serrand, Emilio Varrà, Daniele Barbieri, and Valentina Manchia.
