Brera Modern Mega Museum to Open in 2023 Despite Controversy

James Bradburne, director of the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, has categorically denied a Corriere della Sera article claiming that the Brera Modern project is stalled and that two key collections would be transferred to the City of Milan. The project, also known as Grande Brera, involves the restoration and adaptation of adjacent Palazzo Citterio as a modern art wing. Bradburne insists that Palazzo Citterio will open in 2023 as planned, housing the Jesi and Vitali collections currently displayed in the Napoleonic rooms. The renovation, costing €23 million and covering 6,500 square meters, includes a monumental glass staircase, temporary exhibition spaces, conference rooms, a bookshop, a café, and a garden. The project aims to double the museum's exhibition space and create a unified cultural hub. Bradburne reaffirmed his commitment to Franco Russoli's vision of displaying modern collections at Palazzo Citterio, despite past obstacles including disputes over restoration solutions.
