Brera Academy Plans New Museum in Saronno's Former Isotta Fraschini Factory

The Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera is expanding beyond Milan with a new museum in the former Isotta Fraschini automobile factory in Saronno. President Livia Pomodoro announced the project on February 27 during the inaugural day of the academic year. The museum will feature exhibition spaces, an auditorium, teaching areas, and workshops, aiming to create a cosmopolitan environment for international students and promote contemporary art's social role. The site, abandoned for decades, was once home to the historic car manufacturer founded by Cesare Isotta and Vincenzo Fraschini. Director Giovanni Iovane emphasized the museum's role in harmonizing education, social engagement, and territorial openness. Saronno's mayor Augusto Airoldi hailed the project as a catalyst for urban regeneration and economic revival, with work expected to take three to five years. The initiative involves collaboration with property owner Giuseppe Gorla and aims to transform a disused industrial area into a cultural hub.
