Bread dress and cathedral gown steal show at AMVCA 2025
The 12th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) in Lagos featured extravagant fashion, including a dress made from over 500 loaves of bread worn by Queen Mercy Atang to promote her bakery, designed by Toyin Lawan of Tiannah's Empire. Nana Akua Addo wore a silver architectural gown inspired by Cologne Cathedral, designed by Abasswoman. Uche Montana arrived in a red-and-gold phoenix ensemble and won the Trailblazer Award. Bucci Franklin won Best Supporting Actor for 'To Kill a Monkey,' dedicating the award to his late mother. Linda Ejiofor made history as the first person to win both Best Lead Actress (for 'The Serpent's Gift') and Best Supporting Actress (for 'The Herd'). 'My Father's Shadow' won Best Movie, Best Director, and Best Writing; it was the first Nigerian film selected for Cannes in 2025. Uzor Arukwe won Best Lead Actor for 'Colours of Fire.' Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo received Lifetime Achievement Awards. The event took place at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
