Brazilian Galleries Unite Under Latitude Platform to Boost International Presence
Founded in 2007, Latitude serves as a platform for Brazilian art galleries abroad, expanding from 5 to 58 galleries that showcase over 1,000 contemporary artists. Since 2011, it has operated in collaboration with ABACT (Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art Galleries) and Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency). The initiative promotes international engagement through Art Immersion trips, which have welcomed over 220 curators, directors, collectors, writers, and journalists from more than 15 countries over seven years. Exports surged from $6 million in 2007 to $94 million by 2019. During the pandemic, Latitude adapted by offering digital support, including online viewing rooms. In September 2020, the Latitude Art Fair on Artsy featured 54 galleries, drawing over 34,000 visitors from more than 20 countries and generating sales exceeding $193,000. The platform aims to enhance training for smaller galleries while reinforcing the global presence of established ones.
