Brazilian and South African Artists Collaborate in Gondwana Conversations Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Starting on February 7, 2019, the Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP) is hosting 'Conversas em Gondwana,' an exhibition that features collaborative works from artists hailing from Brazil and South Africa. This project is the result of in-depth research and collaborations among Southern hemisphere artists, inspired by the ancient landmass Gondwana to foster artistic dialogue among curators and researchers. The first edition highlights five artist pairs: Aline Xavier with Haroon Gunn-Salie, Ana Hupe with Gabrielle Goliath, Clara Ianni and Mikhael Subotzky, Daniel Lima with Ismail Farouk, and Paulo Nimer PJota with Siwa Mgoboza. It also includes 'Arquipélago,' featuring artists like Kemang Wa Lehulere and Penny Siopis. Curators Juliana Caffé and Juliana Gontijo aim to delve into 'critical border thinking,' addressing themes of post-colonial identities and societal issues. The exhibition runs until April 7, 2019, at CCSP on Rua Vergueiro, 1000, and entry is free.
