Bradley Theodore Customizes Moleskine Bags and Notebooks for Milan Design Week 2017

architecture-design · 2026-05-05

New York street artist Bradley Theodore, of Caribbean origin, has reinvented Moleskine's iconic black notebook and a Classic Collection backpack for the Fuorisalone 2017, responding to BASE's call on Nomadic Design. Theodore's painterly style—featuring tags, building profiles, stylized figures, and expressionist forms—transforms the items into chromatic surfaces using brushes and spray cans. The color palette ranges from sky blue to aqua green, purple to pink, with white for quick outlines and black for backgrounds and structures. The Moleskine event spans five locations in Milan from April 3 to 5. At BASE, the M-Box installation highlights the innovative shell designed by Giulio Iacchetti, a protective base allowing bags to stand upright. At Moleskine Café, the Moving Ideas party features Theodore in a live painting performance on the facade windows. Interactive digital stations at Moleskine Stores in Piazza Gae Aulenti, via Dante, and corso Buenos Aires let the public virtually customize bags using the Smart Writing Set and My Virtual BackPack app, sharing results on social media. Talks at BASE include 'Let's talk about street-art' on April 4 at noon with Theodore, and 'From Notebook to Backpack' on April 5 at 5 PM with Iacchetti.
