Bper Bank Opens Baroque Exhibition in Modena
Bper Bank of Modena has organized the exhibition 'Corrispondenze barocche' to showcase Baroque art from its own collections and the Museo Civico. The exhibition includes works from the Campori and Sernicoli collections, plus about ten pieces from the Museo Civico. The bank's cultural project, started in 2017, aims to make its heritage accessible to the public. Greta Rossi, head of activities, describes it as a strategic project with external and internal communication, school activities, and digital channels. Curator Lucia Peruzzi notes the collection's coherence, begun in the 1950s by Carlo Volpe, and highlights the fascinating thread between Bper's works and those of the Museo Civico. The exhibition traces Modena's renewal by Bolognese artists, pupils of the Carracci, such as Lucio Massari, whose sensual Magdalene maintains sentimental depth. Standouts include Alessandro Tiarini's 'Rinaldo and Armida', one of the bank's first acquisitions, featuring carnal eroticism and robust naturalism, and 'The Beheading of John the Baptist' with Caravaggesque accents. Artists featured include Boulanger, Luca Ferrari, Guercino, Michele Desubleo, Ludovico Lana, and Francesco Stringa, the most important Modenese painter of the late 17th century.
