BP Protest at British Museum, Art Central Cancels, Serpentine's Young Architects, and More Art News

other · 2026-04-20

Activists from BP Or Not BP conducted a sit-in lasting 50 hours at the British Museum to protest BP's sponsorship of the exhibition Troy: myth and reality, bringing along a 13-foot Trojan horse that led to unapproved workshops. Museum director Hartwig Fischer recognized their right to protest but highlighted the importance of sponsorship for funding. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, both Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central canceled their events in March 2020. The Serpentine Gallery engaged Johannesburg-based Counterspace, directed by Sumayya Vally, Sarah de Villiers, and Amina Kaskar, to design its 2020 pavilion. Alasdair Gray's prints are currently displayed at Glasgow Print Studio. Residents of Neo Bankside lost their appeal against Tate Modern's surveillance. Armenia is set to host its inaugural biennial from 24 September to 31 December 2020. Clément Chéroux has been appointed as the chief curator of photography at MoMA, New York.
