Bourges Exhibition Revisits Police Violence Through Art
At Galerie La Transversale in Bourges, a group exhibition curated by Étienne Meignant features twenty works by six young artists examining discipline, authority, and bodily coercion. The show references a December 2018 incident in Mantes-la-Jolie where 150 high school students were forced to kneel with hands on heads by police. Artists include Brodette, who embroiders news images of police violence on organza; Pierre Grandclaude, who redraws the Mantes-la-Jolie event in pen; Grégoire Messeri and Étienne Meignant, who created a game about police and protesters; Arnaud Adami, who paints portraits of Deliveroo workers; and Wan-Ting Fu, who critiques school discipline with sculptures. The gallery is located inside Lycée Alain-Fournier in the Gibjoncs neighborhood. The exhibition runs from June 24 to July 10 and August 19 to September 26, 2020.
